Kavlico LVDTs operate using a non-contacting transduction principle providing friction free motion and infinite resolution. This principle has been refined through manufacturing and test technology, to make our LVDTs the standard for flight and fuel control position measurements. Our success stems from our ability to manufacture matched multiple sensors (channels) for redundancy.
Multiple channels are provided in a variety of housing designs that may be mounted directly on airframe control and cockpit control surfaces or provided as an integral part of a servo valve or main ram actuator.
Position Feedback for numerous commercial and military aircraft systems including: flight control actuators, valves, nose wheel steering systems, cockpit controls, engine bleed air systems, fuel controls, fly-by-wire systems, brake-by-wire systems, environmental control systems, and more.
Linear Variable Differential Transformer (LVDT) is a linear position sensor that produces an electrical signal proportional to the displacement of a moveable core (armature) within a hollow cylindrically wound coil assembly. The core is attached to the target via an armature extension.
When the design of a system requires more electrical redundancy to achieve the necessary system reliability, multi-channel LVDTs are the sensor of choice. This is often the case for military fly-by-wire aircraft.
Multiple coil assemblies (each referred to as a channel) may be installed in one housing. The housing with the coil assemblies installed is referred to as the transformer assembly or transformer. Each channel has a separate armature assembly (the core and extension) attached to the common plate. The plate in turn is generally attached via a threaded lug to the target.
To prevent transmitting torque to the extension ends while threading the common plate to the target, the assembly can be designed with precision bearings between the threaded section and the extension rods. This bearing assembly also allows the rotation of the target without imparting a torque into the extension rods and armatures.
Kavlico manufactures custom DC/DC LVDTs for severe environments. These are designed to order per the end-users application specific requirement. Additionally, Kavlico can supply remote signal conditioning and control boxes.
