Driven by mandated
EPA regulations, after-treatment technologies
will be the diesel engine industries
next playing field for emissions control.
Multiple system solutions are arising
to compete in this emerging market.
One solution to
reduce particulate mater (PM) will
be to utilize a diesel particulate
filter system to prevent clogging.
This critical control parameter can
be managed via the use of Kavlico
differential pressure (DP) sensors.
For OEM applications,
Kavlico (DP) sensors have been designed
with application specific integrated
circuits (ASICs) that include numerous
features that correlate to and exceed
customer requirements. Add to that
Kavlicos variety of sensing
technologies (ceramic capacitive,
and micro-machined piezoresistive),
and the OEM can specify a sensor that
is tailored to their unique particulate
trap monitoring approach.
Kavlicos
rugged ceramic capacitive based differential
pressure (DP) sensor is a high accuracy
sensor designed to perform where narrow
pressure ranges (0 to 5 psid) are
needed along with high overpressure
capability of up to 100 psi. The high
overpressure capability is achieved
via a specially designed housing,
seal, and fastening approach.
Equipped with a
customer flange bracket, face seal
ports, and integrated connector, the
device can be ready to install and
measure custom pressure ranges from
3 psid to 50 psid. This sensor design
is especially well suited for the
most rugged applications where exhaust
media and corrosion durability are
neeed due to toxic environmental surroundings.
Another of Kavlicos
(DP) sensors using a ceramic capacitive
based technology has been widely used
in Europe for particulate trap filter
clogging monitoring. This sensor has
been designed to perform at 0 to 15
psid with very high accuracy. Overpressure
capability is 30 psi. Cost-effective
and reliable ultra-sonic welds fasten
the integral EMI shielded product
together to complete the sensor package.
The sensor can be equipped with an
integrally molded flange bracket,
protruding pressure ports for hose
mounts, or a molded connector. This
sensor performs best in moderate exhaust
media environments.
Kavlicos
proprietary micro-machined piezoresistive
(PRT) sensing technology is used in
yet another product offereing for
filter monitoring. This sensor has
a measurement range of 0 to 15 psid
and has an overpressure capability
of 30 psi. This device is targeted
for large OEMs requiring high
volumes of sensors in aggressively
cost competitive environments. The
tube-mount arrangement eliminates
the OEMs need for special mounting
hardware.
Kavlicos
after-treatment solutions for particulate
monitoring systems range from very
rugged and robust to extremely cosy-effective
and competitive designs based upon
the OEMs application specific
requirement. Flexibility in design
and manufacturing processes are key
to Kavlicos success in this
market.
